Day 1 Airport > Colombo
At the airport you will be greeted by your chauffeur guide who will take you into the capital city of Colombo. Once at the comforts of your hotel, relax and recover from any jet lag. If you have spare time, your chauffeur guide will introduce you to some of Colombo’s curious sites such the vibrant markets of Pettah or alternatively indulge in some shopping.
Day 2 Colombo > Habarana
Commence your Sri Lanka holidays by settings off from coastal Colombo to experience the inland delights of our island. To begin, drop by the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, which houses the abandoned and the wounded elephants. Here you can watch them being fed and bathed. After lunch, continue to the town of Habarana, within Sri Lanka’s rich cultural triangle.
Day 3 Habarana > Polonnaruwa > Habarana
Learn about ancient Ceylon’s turbulent past. Begin the morning by mounting the rock fortress of Sigiriya – a 5th Century “Fortress in the Sky”. Then continue to one of the better kept ruins of ancient Ceylon – the UNESCO World Heritage City of Polonnaruwa, which was the medieval capital of Sri Lanka from the 11th – 13th century A.D.
Day 4 Habarana > Kandy
As you leave from Habarana, why not make a stop at one of the more unusual temples buried in a maze – the UNESCO Golden Cave Temple. Shortly afterwards you will arrive in spiritual Kandy, surrounded by greenery and the great Mahaweli River. Kandy is also well known as the centre of Buddhism. At your convenience become acquainted with the city of Kandy, pay your respects to the Temple of the Tooth Relic and later in the evening view a cultural dance performance.ce.
Day 5 Kandy & outskirts
For an in depth flavor of Kandy, spend a lazy day walking the streets or relaxing at your residence. During the day take a guided stroll through the lush Royal Botanical Gardens of Peredeniya for an introduction to tropical flora..
Day 6 Kandyara Eliy > Nuwa
Welcome to Nuwara EliyaSri Lanka’s tea growing centre and enroute visit a tea factory. During the drive relish the endless views of tea carpeted valleys and the bright flash of female “tea pluckers” in their pimento, fuchsia and cerise saris. Enjoy a guided stroll of Nuwara Eliya town, pass the 18-hole golf course, the colonial member’s only Hill Club and English styled country homes.
Day 7 Nuwara Eliya > Horton Plains > Nuwara Eliya
For a complete experience of Sri Lanka’s panoramic mountains, travel just outside the town of Nuwara Eliya to the National Park of Horton Plains. Take a slow and steady hike which also features Baker’s waterfall. Return to the town of Nuwara Eliya and spend the day as you like.
Day 8 Nuwara Eliya > Yala
From the hills of Nuwara Eliya decend to the jungles of Yala. The Yala National Park is famous for the elusive leopard and has one of the highest densities of leopards in the world. The sloth bear and Asian elephant that are also part of Sri Lanka’s Big Five can be spotted. With some good luck you will witness all these creatures and more over an evening jeep safari accompanied by a naturalist guide.
Day 9 Yala > Airport or to the beach
As all good things must come to an end, your chauffeur guide will comfortably take you to the air taxi or helicopter landing point. Next enjoy a bird’s eye view of our paradise island as you are whisked away to the international airport in time for your return flight. Alternatively, you could always soak up some sun on Sri Lanka’s pristine beaches which are as close as an hour and a half away from Yala.
